Best mid-price off-road caravan: AOR Quantum Series 5

The Quantum Series 5 is a step up in price and features at $89,990, but still provides a great deal of versatility to buyers. A 14ft pop-top hybrid camper trailer, its narrow width of just 6ft 5in means it can fit almost anywhere while you’re on your travels. It comes with an external L-shaped kitchen, pantry and 82L fridge/freezer, as well as 280L of water storage.

With its slimline and lightweight solar panels, you can gain access to up to 700W of solar power and comes with lithium batteries of up to 540ah. Additionally, its interior design offers a homely feel with a queen-size bed, internal sink and toilet, four-seat dinette space and large vibration-proof storage drawers.

Best upper-price off-road caravan: Masterpiece Optimum CRZR Edition

If you have more money to part with for your upcoming off-road adventures, the Optimum CRZR from Masterpiece Caravans delivers. Retailing for around $204,990, the upgrades on lower-priced caravans are immediately apparent when stepping inside the vehicle. At 22ft, you have plenty of interior space, which is enhanced further by premium vinyl flooring and genuine leather upholstery.

The Optimum CRZR also packs a punch when it comes to available power, with a 630ah battery system and 1000W rooftop solar. You’ll also enjoy a fan-forced gas/electric oven, microwave, washing machine, reverse cycle air conditioning and gas heater, 224L compressor fridge and a slide-out kitchen. This is all in addition to external features like two ensuite hatches, a rain sensor, a dust reduction system, two picnic tables and more.

Best luxury off-road caravan: Kedron TE7 Topender

When it comes to luxury off-road adventures, the Kedron TE7 Topender stands alone. According to its website, the 26ft TE7 comes with “Design Registered integration of Air-Brakes into swing-arm suspension to allow an ATM above 4.5t, with a greater payload for the larger US Pick-up truck towing capacity to have an ATM available up to 6t”, making it unique among caravans on the Australian market.

In terms of its features, the list is as long as it is varied. You can pick up a TE7 with genuine hide leather seats with heating, heated towel racks, a Bose sound system and hot and chilled sparkling water dispensers. The model also comes with a hot dipped galvanised chassis, interlocked aluminium frame with high tensile solid punch pins and premium non-toxic wall and roof insulation.

At an estimated starting price of around $260,000, the TE7 isn’t an option for everyone, but for those on the market for a luxury off-road experience like no other, it’s considered one of the top caravans available to buy in Australia right now.

Tips for buying your caravan

Of course, before you settle on which caravan is best for your needs, it’s important to consider a few things. According to Bill Tsouvalas, Managing Director of Savvy, knowing your budget is one of the most important factors.

“When it comes to buying your caravan, it’s crucial to know what your budget can get you”, he said.

“If you only have around $50,000 to work with for a new model, you’ll likely be limited to smaller caravans and camper trailers, while increasing that to $100,000 to $150,000 will open up your potential options massively.

“Also, if you don’t quite have enough money to buy the caravan you want up-front, taking out a secured loan may help you increase your budget and repay the cost over a longer period.”

Bill Tsouvalas, Managing Director - Savvy

It’s essential to consider factors like whether you want a new or used caravan, how much your vehicle can tow (the weight of the caravan) and what model size you can comfortably store and travel around with.
