What car insurance policies are available through Kogan?

Kogan provides the following types of car insurance:

Comprehensive Car Insurance

Comprehensive car insurance is the most extensive type of cover on offer in Australia, though also generally the most expensive. Kogan’s Comprehensive Car Insurance has the following inclusions:

  • Coverage for accidental loss or damage to your car resulting from incidents including collision or impact, theft or attempted theft, fire or explosion, weather events (such as hail or flood), and malicious damage

  • Up to $100 in travel expenses to get to your destination if your car is unsafe to drive
  • Up to $1,000 in emergency accommodation and transport costs if you are more than 100km from home and your car is unsafe to drive
  • Reasonable costs of towing your car to the nearest repairer or safe location, as well as reasonable storage costs at the agreed location
  • Hire car after a not-at-fault car accident
  • Hire car after theft or attempted theft for up to 14 days
  • Up to $500 for essential temporary repairs
  • Up to $1,000 to repair or replace your trailer
  • The cost of replacing or recoding your car keys, locks or barrels if your car keys are stolen (excess payable)
  • Automatic cover transfer to a replacement car for up to 14 days after disposing of your previous car
  • ‘No excess’ windscreen repair (not replacement)
  • Legal liability cover up to $30 million
Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance

The most basic form of optional car insurance in Australia, third party property cover is designed to cover damage your vehicle causes to other people’s property, rather than damage to your own vehicle. Kogan’s policy offers the following inclusions:

  • Legal liability cover up to $30 million
  • Up to $5,000 for damage caused by an uninsured driver
  • Automatic transfer of your policy to a replacement car for up to 14 days from the time you sell or dispose of your previous car

You may also be able to add Fire and Theft cover to your Third Party Property Damage plan. This includes the following additional features:

  • Replacement baby capsules and child seats that are damaged by fire or stolen from inside your car
  • Reasonable towing and storage costs if your car is unsafe to drive
  • Hire car after theft or attempted theft for up to 14 days
NSW CTP Green Slip Insurance

Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance, known as a Green Slip in New South Wales, is a mandatory requirement for all drivers in Australia. It provides coverage for third-party compensation claims if you or anyone driving your car causes injury to or kills someone in an accident. NSW residents can take out and renew their Green Slip with Kogan, which will cover them for:

  • The cost of the third party’s treatment and care, which may be for life
  • The third party’s loss of income
  • Any damages claim the third party may be entitled to lodge
  • 26 weeks of benefits from the date of the accident if they are at fault or mostly at fault

Are there any optional extras available through Kogan?

Yes – Kogan offers several optional extras on its Comprehensive Car Insurance policy:

  • Hire car after incidents other than theft, attempted theft or not-at-fault car accidents for up to 14 days
  • ‘No excess’ windscreen replacement
  • Choice of repairer

What are some of the pros and cons of buying car insurance through Kogan?

  • Affordable policies: Kogan aims to provide affordable, value-for-money car insurance to Australian drivers.
  • Generous legal liability cover: legal liability cover is up to $30 million for all levels of cover, while many other insurers cap it at $20 million.
  • Choice of agreed or market value cover: when you take out your policy, you can choose to insure your car for its agreed value or market value.
  • No no-claim bonus: Kogan does not give customers the option to build up their no-claim bonus, instead focusing on offering lower-cost policies.
  • No items cover on TPFT policies: if you take out Fire and Theft cover, you will not be covered for loss or theft of personal items.
