What car insurance policies are available through Coles?

Coles offers the following types of car insurance to Australian drivers:

Comprehensive Car Insurance

Of the different types of cover, comprehensive insurance is the most extensive – though also generally the most expensive. Coles’ Comprehensive Car Insurance offers the following inclusions:

  • Coverage includes accidental and malicious damage, storms, fire, floods and hail
  • Coverage if you cause damage to someone else’s car or property while using your car, attached trailer or caravan
  • Emergency repairs, towing and accommodation expenses are covered for emergencies
  • In the event that your car is stolen, car hire is provided at a rate of up to $75 per day for a maximum of 14 days
  • Your stolen car is covered, whether or not it is found
  • If your car keys are stolen, a replacement set will be provided
  • Personal property is covered, excluding mobile phones, laptops and electronic devices
  • Up to $200 is provided for replacement of damaged or stolen groceries
  • If your car is insured from the first registration and is written off, a new-for-new car replacement is available within the first two years
  • If a trailer or caravan attached to your car is stolen, you will be covered for replacement for up to $1,000
  • Child seats and baby capsules are covered up to $500 if they are involved in an insured event or stolen from your locked car
Third Party Fire and Theft Insurance

This type of cover is a step down from comprehensive car insurance, offering protections against damage sustained due to theft and fire, as well as damage to other vehicles and property. Coles’ Third Party Fire and Theft Insurance has the following inclusions:

  • If you cause damage to another person’s car or property while using your car, attached trailer or caravan (subject to assessment), coverage is provided up to $20 million
  • Damage caused by uninsured drivers is covered up to $3,000
  • Whether your car is found or not, coverage is provided for a stolen car
  • Towing and storage costs are covered if your car is involved in an insured event or recovered after theft
  • Coverage is provided for damage to your car resulting from fire
  • Temporary cover is available for a change of car, allowing you to update your policy with a similar replacement car without the need to cancel or reapply
Third Party Property Damage Insurance

This is the most basic form of optional car insurance available, designed to cover damage your vehicle causes to other people’s property, rather than to your own vehicle. Coles’ Third Party Property Damage Insurance policy offers the following inclusions:

  • Coverage is provided up to $20 million for damage to another person’s car or property if caused while using your car, attached trailer or caravan (subject to assessment)
  • Damage caused by uninsured drivers is covered up to $3,000
  • Change of car temporary cover allows you to update your policy with a similar replacement car without the need to cancel or reapply

Are there any optional extras available through Coles?

Yes – all of Coles’ car insurance policies have roadside assistance available as an optional extra. Its Comprehensive plan also has the following optional extras:

  • Windscreen or window glass damage: one excess-free claim annually
  • Car hire after an accident: up to $75 per day for 14 days
  • Under 25 cover: protection for drivers under 25 using your car

What are some of the pros and cons of buying car insurance through Coles?

  • Affordable policies: Coles has won awards for its good-value policies, offering high-quality products at competitive prices.
  • 24/7 claims service: you can lodge and manage claims online at any time through Coles’ Insurance Service Centre.
  • Roadside assistance: all of Coles’ car insurance policies offer the option to add roadside assistance to your plan.
  • Minimum age limits: drivers under 25 years old can be added as an optional extra to Comprehensive plans, but are not covered under TPFT and TPPD policies.
  • Limited windscreen damage cover: windscreen damage can be added as an optional extra to Comprehensive policies, but only one excess-free claim can be made in a year.

Common questions about Coles car insurance

Does Coles offer CTP insurance?

No – Coles does not provide Green Slip or Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance in any state or territory of Australia. You should check your state or territory government’s website to find out what your CTP options are.

Are there any discounts or bonuses with Coles car insurance?

Yes – if you are taking out a car insurance policy with Coles for the first time, you will get a 15% discount when you buy online. If you have Coles Comprehensive Car Insurance, you can also earn extra flybuys points every time you spend at Coles.

Will Coles let me choose my repairer?

No – you cannot choose your own repairer. If your car needs to be repaired following an insured incident, you must choose from one of Coles’ National Partner Repairers. The network is nationwide, meaning you can find a repairer wherever you need one.

Does Coles car insurance cover towing?

Coles’ Comprehensive and Third Party Fire and Theft policies will cover towing and storage costs for one tow if your car is damaged and cannot be driven after an insured event. If more than one tow is required, Coles will decide which it will pay for.
