What car insurance policies are available through Allianz?

Allianz offers the following types of car insurance to Australian drivers:

Comprehensive Car Insurance

Comprehensive insurance covers both your car and damage you cause to other people’s cars or property with your vehicle. Allianz’s Comprehensive Car Insurance offers the following inclusions:

  • Covers loss or damage to your car due to various accidental incidents, such as collisions, fire, theft, weather events, and more
  • Any driver with your permission is covered, with certain exclusions
  • Provides an agreed value for your car, taking into account factors like modifications, options, accessories and additional costs
  • In the event of a total loss within two years of manufacture, you can choose between the agreed value or a new replacement car
  • Rental car provided after an incident or alternatively a travel allowance of $50 per day
  • Up to $500 reimbursement for emergency repairs with receipts/proof
  • Reasonable costs covered for towing, storing and transporting the car to/from the repairer/rental car provider, accident scene to destination, or stolen car location
  • Choose your own repairer
  • Up to $500 for extra accommodation more than 100km from home when your car is undrivable after an incident
  • Up to $1,000 for key replacement and lock recoding after theft (excluding key given to or stolen by someone you live with)
  • Up to $500 reimbursement for personal belongings lost, stolen or damaged in a covered incident (excluding certain items and unlocked car theft, including baby capsules/child seats)
Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance

This type of cover is not as extensive as comprehensive insurance but does protect against the cost of accidentally damaging someone else's car or property with your vehicle. Allianz’s Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance offers the following inclusions:

  • Cover for up to $20 million in legal liability from any one incident
  • Covers reasonable legal costs and expenses from court proceedings due to a liability claim
  • Covers anyone who drives the car with your permission
  • If you change vehicles, your replacement car will be covered under your existing car insurance policy for up to 14 days on the same terms
Compulsory Third Party Insurance

CTP insurance is a mandatory requirement for all car owners in Australia, covering your liability in the case of an accident you cause that injures or kills other road users. Allianz offers CTP insurance in Queensland and South Australia, and equivalent Green Slip insurance in New South Wales. Though the specifics vary from state to state, your CTP insurance may cover:

  • Your responsibility for injuries caused to third parties in a car accident
  • Liability coverage for injuries caused by other drivers operating your vehicle
  • Compensation for lost wages due to injuries
  • Medical treatment and related expenses

Are there any optional extras available through Allianz?

Yes – Allianz’s Comprehensive Car Insurance policy offers the following optional extras:

  • No excess for claims only for windscreen damage.
  • Rental car provided after any covered incident, including weather-related damage and at-fault collisions, or a $50-a-day travel allowance.

What are some of the pros and cons of buying car insurance through Allianz?

  • Any driver cover: you will be covered whenever anyone drives your car with your permission, as long as they are legally able to do so.
  • Choice of repairer: with Allianz’s Comprehensive Car Insurance, you can use Allianz’s nominated repairer or choose you own.
  • Agreed value cover: when you take out your policy, you can agree a set value for your car should it be written-off or stolen.
  • Limited insurance options: Allianz currently only offers two optional car insurance policies, which may not meet everyone’s requirements.
  • Limited rental car provision: if your car is deemed a write-off, you will only be offered a rental car for up to seven days.

Common questions about Allianz car insurance

How do I make a car insurance claim with Allianz?

You can lodge a claim at any time either online or by calling Allianz’s claim team. This should be done as soon as reasonably possible, and you may be required to provide additional information to support the claims process.

Can I get roadside assistance cover through Allianz?

Yes – Allianz offers separate roadside assistance cover that can be purchased on top of or without a car insurance policy. Cover is available Australia-wide as either a Basic or Platinum plan, depending on your requirements.

Does Allianz provide commercial vehicle insurance?

Yes – if you use your vehicle for business purposes, for example as a courier or delivery driver, Allianz offers commercial motor insurance with three different levels of cover: comprehensive, third party fire and theft, and third party property damage.

Does my Allianz car insurance cover me when driving another car?

No – if you are driving someone else’s car or a car not listed on your Allianz insurance policy, you will not be covered by Allianz car insurance. You should check the insurance documents for the car you are driving to check whether you are covered.
