- The Savvy Promise
Overview
Ample battery, great performance, and packing in range beyond the norm, the Genesis GV60 is stylish and futuristic – with funky bells and whistles inside and out. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but as with any design truly pushing the envelope, that’s kind of the point!

GV60 EV range
The Genesis GV60 benefits from a dual-motor electric engine pumping out 234kW and 605Nm of torque. This all runs atop a 77.4kWh battery pack, which Genesis claims will run for about 470km.
The GV60 is also built around the 800V electric architecture, which supports 350kW charging and VTL output. That means you can charge it from 10-80% in about 75 minutes on a typical 50kW charger or a shade under 20 minutes on a new 350kW DC fast charger.
Energy consumption is stated as 18.8kWh/100km for the basic GV60. The GV60 stayed around the 20kWh/100km mark, meaning we'd operate to a range of roughly 387km (from the 77.4kWh battery), down from where a steady 18.8kWh would carry us 412km, and significantly down from the WLTP claimed range of 470km.
Speed and handling
In our tests, the GV60 behaved well and was balanced during our drive. Performance is fun both off the line and at a roll, and ride quality is superb throughout.
Even switching the vehicle to Sport mode may be entertaining as the seats automatically tighten their grip around you to compensate for the added speed.
To assist recovering as much energy as possible, drivers can employ varied levels of regeneration friction and even choose a one-pedal driving mode. The paddles on the steering wheel make it simple to switch between these settings. Adopting more aggressive recuperation settings will reduce the car's overall energy use.

Safety
The GV60 has a five-star ANCAP safety rating and scored 89% on adult and child occupant protection. This owes much to the adaptive cruise control, built in camera, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), and a lane keeping aid. It also boasts eight airbags.
One of the more intriguing and excellent safety features is the Genesis augmented reality (AR) navigation feature. The Genesis AR navigation displays your route, using enormous animated arrows to indicate the way; alternatively, if you veer off your lane, you’ll hit an invisible marked “barrier” and a sonic warning to stay within the tracks. It even alerts you when you’re driving near red-light or speed cameras.
Pre-collision braking is fairly harsh at lower speeds, especially if you are making a “risky” manoeuvre like a three-point turn or backing out of a parking space. You may need to move rapidly to close a gap in current traffic, or you may be able to determine the distance or an opening for yourself. Although having the automobile brake for you in these situations may be “safer,” it certainly isn’t simpler. It might be a tad too overzealous for defensive or seasoned drivers who aren’t fans of “drive by wires.”
Exterior
The design language of the car is positively futuristic, offering the trademark Genesis quad lights and crest grille are positioned behind a unique clamshell hood. The grille is lowered to allow ample cooling of the high-performance electric engine. Even though this is billed as an SUV, it’s isn’t your traditional “box on wheels.” It has a sleek, aquiline coupe look and even has an integrated spoiler on the back, supporting a floating roof and connecting it to the C-pillar. A smart chrome trim is a subtle nod to the athleticism and power that resides within. It also has roof rails and acoustic laminated windshields and window glass.
Interior
If the Genesis GV60 wasn’t meant for the roads, it might have found a home in the shuttle bay of the Federation starship Enterprise. LCD side mirrors, diamond-stitched seats in ice white and glowing green dashboard all point towards this vehicle travelling backward in time from the future – a future where we still need roads, of course. What grabs the eye is the glowing Crystal Sphere.
The sphere is an indicator of the car’s current drive mode – Blue for comfort, red for Sport, and green for Eco. When you hit the ignition, it flips over to reveal the rotary gear selector. For those of us who may wonder if the car is on (EVs are silent runners) the sphere is a great visual cue to let you know that yes, the car is actually running.
The front compartment has plenty of room thanks to a spacious floating centre console that has a cubby, netted storage pockets, cup holders, and a practical phone charging station. If you want to fill the cabin with the perfume of potpourri, there is also a scent dispenser on the passenger side of the glove box. In case you ever pined for one in your old car.
Although there are several adjustment options, the seating position is generally fine – taller people in the back may feel a bit cramped, though. It’s the old conundrum in EVs – the floor will be higher than traditional internal combustion engine vehicles due to the battery pack. Rear passengers benefit from integrated window shades, heated seats, two USB-C connections, a cupholder-equipped centre armrest, additional cupholders built into the doors themselves, and conveniently located vents on the B-pillar edge, as well as a 250V mains outlet below. .
Genesis also allows you to personalise colours and trims through their interactive shopping mall studios and computer-aided experiences. Luckily, the main differentiator between the GV60 and the GV60 Performance is, well, the driving performance. Many of the modcons remain consistent across both: heated seats in front and back, driver and passenger massage, rear door blinds, heads-up display and Bang & Olufsen audio throughout the car.
Wheel size
Wheelbase of 2900mm. 20” wheels front and back.
Boot space
Boot space isn’t the best, nor is it the worst in an EV we’ve seen so far. We get 432L, expandable into 1460L if you use the 60:40 rear split seat. There’s also 20L of sealed storage under the front bonnet. You can also keep bigger items at bay with an integrated cargo net. If you keep losing cables, don’t fret – there are compartments under the floor to keep all those bits and pieces neat and tidy.
Towing capacity
The 2022 Genesis GV60 has a 1,600kg braked towing capacity and 750kg unbraked towing capacity.
Conclusion
The GV60 is a cut above the rest – and you are paying for it through the price tag. It is arguably the future of electric motoring, as an SUV that’s future proofed to the hilt and quite rightly, doesn’t match up what we usually associate with the word “SUV.” Sleek, distinctive, and powerful – it could give even the most EV-hesitant buyer pause for second thought.
Getting finance for your new EV
If you are thinking about purchasing a Genesis GV60, or a different EV model, you can talk to our team to discuss what type of loan will be most suitable for your situation.

It’s always important to consider whether professional financial, legal or taxation advice is appropriate for you before choosing or purchasing a financial product.
Approval for car loans is always subject to our lender’s terms, conditions and qualification criteria. Lenders will undertake a credit check in line with responsible lending obligations to help determine whether you’re in a position to take on the loan you’re applying for.
The interest rate, comparison rate, fees and monthly repayments will depend on factors specific to your profile, such as your financial situation, as well others, such as the loan’s size and your chosen repayment term. Costs such as broker fees, redraw fees or early repayment fees, and cost savings such as fee waivers, aren’t included in the comparison rate but may influence the cost of the loan. Different terms, fees or other loan amounts may result in a different comparison rate.
