More about Fast Cover travel insurance

Fast Cover offers a wide range of travel insurance policies, including:

  • Comprehensive: Fast Cover’s most popular policy offers you Benefits including but not limited to overseas medical expenses, 24/7 emergency assistance, dental costs, lost, stolen or damaged bags and travel delays. Apply for a quote to see whether you are eligible for this policy. You should always check the policy as terms, conditions, exclusions and limits apply, as for example, seniors over 79 years of age will not be eligible for a policy with Fast Cover.
  • Standard Saver: this mid-level travel insurance policy offers some of the same Benefits as the comprehensive plan.
  • Basics: this policy provides some Benefits for some of the bare needs or wants of travel, including but not limited to, overseas 24/7 emergency medical assistance, overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses and some limited overseas emergency dental expenses. However, some of the Benefits you won’t be covered for include but are not limited to cancellation, delays or accidental death.
  • Domestic Plus: if you’re travelling within Australia’s borders, this type of domestic travel insurance policy offers Benefits including but not limited to loss of luggage, travel delays, special event transport and personal liability.  This policy may also offer cover  for travel to some Australian territories, such as Bruny Island or Norfolk Island.
  • Frequent Traveller Saver: designed for the frequent flyer, this policy offers Benefits with cover for an unlimited number of trips over 12 months up to a specified number of days for each trip. Some conditions to be eligible for this Policy include but are not limited to your longest journey must not exceed 63 days and you must be under 65 years of age.

What optional extras are available through Fast Cover?

Fast Cover makes several optional extras available to its travel insurance customers. With all of the below, there are additional terms and conditions which will apply, so you should consider the PDS prior to purchasing one of Fast Cover’s optional extras policies:

  1. Snow Sports Plus Policy: if you’re keen to hit the slopes on your travels, Fast Cover can offer extra cover which may protect you for various listed activities including, but not limited to, recreational snowboarding, snowmobiling, as well as snowcat skiing or off-piste skiing (both of which must be done with a professional snow sports instructor). If eligible, this Policy may provide cover under various Benefits including, but not limited to, overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, replacement of equipment and other expenses associated with the closure of your ski resort due to not enough or too much snow, bad weather and power failure. Various other terms, conditions, exclusions and limits apply, such as the requirement to be aged 69 and under at the date of the policy issue to purchase this Policy.
  2. Adventure activity pack: this policy may provide cover for additional activities you’re taking part in which include, but aren't limited to, cave and river tubing, boxing (basic training only, no sparring or competition), deep sea fishing and expeditions such as trekking the Kokoda Track. As above, there are always other terms, conditions, exclusions and limits which apply, such as you must be aged 74 or under at the date of policy issue to purchase it. Read the PDS before purchasing one of these policies to see whether it's right for you.
  3. Cruise pack: whether you're aboard the ship or participating in a shore excursion, travel insurance for domestic or international cruises offers Benefits which may provide cover for some unanticipated emergencies, including, but not limited to, needing to leave the ship if you're injured or become sick and have to be treated at an overseas hospital (if that happens to be the nearest medical facility). Cover for travelling on cruise ships is only available if you specify at the time you purchase your policy.
  4. Motorcycle pack: As a rider or passenger on a motorcycle, scooter, or moped, Fast Cover offers an optional extra which may provide some cover while you’re enjoying your destination on two or three wheels. You must be aged 74 years and under at the date of policy issue to purchase it. If you don’t purchase this policy and are the rider or passenger on a motorcycle, moped or scooter, you won't have cover.

What exclusions should I be aware of when buying travel insurance through Fast Cover?

You should always ensure you consider all exclusions before purchasing a policy with Fast Cover. You can find these in the PDS, which you should consider prior to purchasing a policy, together with additional terms and conditions which may apply.

The following are just some examples of the general exclusions applicable to all Fast Cover policies:

  5. Travelling against the advice in the mass media or any government or other official body’s warnings
  6. Not wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle

Fast Cover features and limitations

Features

Generous claim limits

If you’re planning a lavish international trip, Fast Cover’s comprehensive policy offers an unlimited amount of overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses and trip cancellation costs.

COVID-19 benefits

Under certain policies, Fast Cover offers cover under Covid-19 Benefits for unlimited overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, cancellation or disruption of your trip and extra accommodation or childcare costs if you test positive to COVID-19 on holiday. As always, certain terms and conditions will apply including no cover within 72 hours of the policy being purchased, so you should always check the PDS prior to purchasing the policy.

Different amounts to choose from for Rental Vehicle excess cover add-on

Fast Cover's Comprehensive, Standard Saver, Snow Sports Plus and Frequent Traveller Saver policies have optional claim limits (at an additional premium) for either up to $5,000 or $8,000 for the excess on a rental car. Rental Vehicle Excess cover of $5,000 is included in the Domestic Plus Policy, but this option is not available with the Basics Policy.

Reduced personal liability cover depending on which policy you choose

Fast Cover's personal liability insurance limit varies. On some plans, they offer up to $5 million in cover, but their Basics policy sets this at $1 million.

Frequently asked questions about Fast Cover travel insurance

How do I make a claim through Fast Cover?

If you’re wanting to make a claim through Fast Cover, you can do it online simply by following these steps:

  • Provide your policy number and email address attached to your policy
  • Complete the claim form with ample detail
  • Attach supporting documents to back up your claim (such as original receipts, valuations, medical or police reports)
  • Submit your claim

It could take up to ten business days for Fast Cover to process your claim from receipt of your claim form. From time to time, they do request additional information about claims and it’s important to respond promptly to avoid holding up the process.

What COVID-19 coverage does Fast Cover offer?

Fast Cover’s policies offer some cover for a number of COVID-19-related expenses, including:

  • Unlimited reasonable overseas emergency medical, hospital or medical evacuation expenses incurred by you until you get back to Australia if you're diagnosed with COVID-19 in a country listed in your Certificate of Insurance
  • Up to $5,000 towards the cost of cancelling or rescheduling your trip if you test positive for COVID-19 (but your COVID-19 diagnosis must be made at least 72 hours after policy purchase and there's no cover for this under Fast Cover’s Basics Policy)
  • Some additional expenses such as child care costs (if you're unable to take care of your dependants who are travelling with you in your full-time care because you've been diagnosed with COVID-19) incurred once you depart on your holiday and your COVID-19 diagnosis is made at least 72 hours after policy purchase)

Additional terms, conditions, exclusions and limits apply to Fast Cover’s COVID-19 Benefits. Therefore, you should consider the PDS before purchasing a policy.

How much will my Fast Cover travel insurance cost?

There's no one-size-fits-all price for travel insurance purchased with Fast Cover. For example, some of the factors that are used to calculate price include, but aren't limited to:

  • Age
  • Destination
  • Level of coverage
  • Optional extras you choose
  • Chosen policy excess
What’s the difference between single-trip, multi-trip and one-way travel insurance policies?

Single-trip travel insurance policies only offer cover for one holiday, while multi-trip policies usually offer cover for a number of holidays over 12 months (up to a specified number of days for each trip). You can choose from 15, 25, 40 or 63 days with Fast Cover’s multi-trip policy, which is called the “Frequent Traveller Saver Policy”.

On the other hand, one-way policies offer cover for journeys taken without a confirmed return flight, lasting up to 12 months (provided you’re a permanent Australian resident) and you're able to apply for it to be extended further (but to a maximum of 24 months in total).
