The new Lexus GS F is said to be a whole new and improved experience and the most powerful created yet. It is set to launch in 2016, but is it up to standard?

What it's Got:

The Lexus GS F provides the usual driver modes, such as Eco and Normal, as well as Sports S and Sports S+. The Australian GS F Standard is a torque vectoring differential (or TVD), which is meant to transfer torque to the rear wheels, for traction optimisation.

It has a 467-hp 5.0-liter V-8, tuned suspension, improved brakes and a cockpit that features sport seating (carbon-fiber trim, grippy seats). The car also boasts 19-inch wheels sporting Michelin tires, six-piston calipers and 15-inch front rotors, making it ready for a race at any time.

The interior offers a modern and sporty feel, with a choice of leather, Alcantara, aluminium and carbon-fiber gear, as well as state-of-the-art technology. A 12.3-inch screen, Mark Levinson sound system including 17 speakers, telephone, audio, navigation and climate systems – all adjustable – and a remote touch interface complete the image of the ultimate cockpit.

The Lexus GS F can only be described as an understated, sophisticated car, (lacking the rough performance of other offerings) but one that provides surprising speed. Going from 0 to 60 in just 4.4 seconds is nothing to sneeze at, and neither is its dynamism when it comes to acceleration, turning or stopping.

The vehicle performs beautifully on the racetrack, well-equipped with electronic driver choices and tuned suspension, which allows you to play “rough”, so to speak. Driving it is a complete sensorial experience, as you can feel it, hear it and see it, given its all – meaning all the 351kW 5.0-liter V8 has to give, and it’s not a little.

The Australian model (estimated at about $150,000) benefits from a standard which includes a security alarm system featuring an ultrasonic break-in sensor, 10 airbags, hill start assistance and a tyre pressure warning.

Buyers also receive advanced safety technologies like Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Parallel Parking Mode, Back Guide Monitor, Blind Spot Monitor, Parking Sonar, as well as the Lexus Safety System+ (Adaptive High Beam System, Pre-Collision System, Lane Keeping Assist, Active Cruise and Lane Departure Warning).

All in all, the Lexus GS F is an excellent car for the driver who appreciates a certain delicate feel in their sports car. While it is a subtle vehicle, it’s a powerful one with a performance that will impress and delight you. The driving experience is unique but satisfying, and you will not be disappointed. In addition, the standard version for Australian buyers comes with a series of extras that are hard to overlook or refuse. All this and more makes it a vehicle to keep your eye on in the coming year.
