When it comes to credit card perks there is more than gaining flyer points and rewards. There are benefits that your credit card holds that can open doors to exclusive deals that can help you save on expenses. Depending on the type of credit card you have, it can even go as far as protecting your valuables. We have five credit card perks that you can use to your advantage over the festive season.

1. Purchase protection insurance

Christmas shopping is well underway for many Australian. You could have a plan to purchase your loved one that one thing that they kept begging you to get throughout the year. However, unforeseeable events such as it being lost, stolen or damaged can be heart breaking. Did you know that if you made the purchase with your credit card, your credit card provider will cover the cost of the item? This is one of the many features that come with rewards cards, but there is a catch. You will have to make a claim within 30 days of the incident occurring. The item also needs to have been purchased in the past 90 days or else it will make your claim void.

2. Price protection

We all love a good bargain especially when you want to low key brag at the brilliant offer you got on your purchase. However, your bragging spree is cut short when someone pipes up that they got the same item for way less. Once more if you have made the purchase on your credit card it comes equipped with price protection. What this means is that you can be reimbursed if you find a lower price that has been advertised elsewhere. The catch with this one is that the claim must be between $75 to $500 and no more than 21- 60 days old.

3. Concierge service for those busy days

The festive season can be a busy time as you are trying to stay busy making sure that you and your family have the best holiday ever. A concierge service comes in handy especially with those last-minute preparations such as finding a hotel recommendation or making dinner reservations. Again, this depends on the type of credit card you might have. Getting in touch with your credit card provider or calling the 24/7 line can see you eliminating one more problem.

4. Rental car protection services

Keep yourself covered if you are planning to use a rental car this festive season. Credit card travel insurance that includes rental car excess can come in handy when renting a car both locally and abroad. In order for your travel insurance cover to be valid you will have to meet the minimum activation requirements. It always important to check with your credit card provider to see whether your card covers you for such service.

5. Perhaps it’s time for an upgrade

Your credit card is there to make your life one step easier. Shopping around for the best credit card, with an interest rate that benefits you is not as stressful as you might think it is. Speaking to a credit card provider can help you find a credit card that is suitable towards your needs. If you were reading some of these benefits, and are thinking, ‘I would like some of that’ then perhaps it is time for an upgrade. Call your financial institution and find out what benefits your card has and doesn’t have to make your festive season experience a truly festive one.
